I’ve seen this TV ad several times now, and it galls me every time: “Drug money supports terror. If you buy drugs you might too.” To which the obvious rejoinder is: So legalise them already.
[Tue, Jun 18 2002 – 12:16] Felix (www) (email) The website actually makes the reasoning explicit, more or less: this is from their “terror quiz”, which as far as I can make out, says that ecstasy supports terrorism simply because it is illegal. What the paragraph about heroin and Colombia has to do with Ecstasy, I have no idea.
What about Ecstasy? It’s about P.L.U.R. (peace, love, unity and respect – a rave term), after all, not terrorism.
The people who take Ecstasy at a rave are most likely supporting:
-a sophisticated European operation
The vast majority of Ecstasy smuggled into the U.S. is produced in Europe — 80% of the Ecstasy seized in the U.S. comes from the Netherlands alone. But for Dutch drug producers, ecstasy is not the Love Drug. It’s the Money Drug, and it’s impossible to ship it from the Netherlands to ravers in the U. S. and keep your hands clean.
In the U.S. it is illegal contraband and it can’t help but become involved, directly or indirectly, in all the bad stuff associated with drug smuggling — money laundering, document forging, bribery of officials and other corruption.
For example, two days before the September 11th attacks, the DEA seized 53 kilos of Afghan heroin in New York — heroin that was being distributed by Colombians. At least one former member of the Colombian government has reported that Afghan citizens began visiting Colombia in the early 1990s, to teach drug traffickers there how to cultivate the opium poppy, the source for heroin. Amazing commercials they have for anti-drugs. I don’t think too many teens are thinking about aiding the terrorists, let alone thinking about world politics! They should use the good ole drugs will mess you up campaigns with some examples to get through to them!
Just spotted this, I know it’s a bit late but there was apparently a lot of money made out of ecstasy by the terrorists who set off the Madrid bombs. They sold large amounts of pills to dealers to raise money for their phones and basic funding.
Unforunately terrorists get into the drug trade as a way of making money to fund they teror eperations. The IRA sold heroin and hash to pay for their guns. Although at the time I bought a lot of the hash, cos it was very good, I never was and never will support terrorism.
Until all drugs are legalised terrorists will turn to drugs as a quick and easy source of income. Think about it. If they have the means to get bombs and stuff into any country, it’s no problem bringing in 20kg of smack or a few hundred thousand pills in. Hash, coke, smack, ecstasy, anything.
The Bush Administration, 3 months before the Sept 11 attacks, gave the Taliban 11 million dollars bacause they had reduced heroin production by up to 90% of it’s previous levels. Now that they are gone, the Northern Alliance and every farmer in the country knows that they can get $16 dollars for a kg of raw opium. This is far more than they could earn from growing chillies (which is what the UN are trying to get them to grow instead). British troops have expressed frustration with their US allies as the Brit soldiers confiscate heroin and arrest people when they find it. They estimate that 1 in every 4 cars they stop is carrying it. The US soldiers don’t do a fucking thing if they find smack because they have promised not to as a reward for the help they recieved in fighting the Taliban.
In the UK, the price of a gram of smack has dropped lower and lower in the last 10-15 years, and the quality has gotten better and better. A bag of Afghan smack (which is pretty much all you get in the UK) weighing 0.4 grams sells for between 10 and 20 pounds. That’s between $18 and $36. 15 years ago it was more than double that. And the more you buy the cheaper it is.
Bush couldn’t have done more to help the UK junkies. He ensured their supply for years to come. Pakistani middle men had started to jack up the prices as supplies began falling due to the Taliban cutting off people’s heads if they were caught growing. Once the war started though they knew there would be an increase in production so they offloaded as much as they could and now the UK is flooded. The rest of Europe is getting it’s sack from the Brits now.
