They would bring their records and spin. More recently, DJs have been been using laptops to create live music from prerecorded loops and samples, and they often do so at <a href=\"http:\/\/newyork.citysearch.com\/profile\/11350879\/\">Open Air<\/a>, a bar on my block in the East Village.<\/p>\n<p>Now, we are beginning to see <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wired.com\/news\/mac\/0,2125,53807,00.html\">VJs performing live mixing of video<\/a> to accompany the music. Thanks to Apple technology, all you need is two PowerBook laptops, Final Cut Pro, a mixing panel and lots of footage. The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.squaresquare.com\/\">best practitioners<\/a> of this new art are playing in the East Village at an event called <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wired.com\/news\/mac\/0,2125,53735,00.html\">Lapdance<\/a>, on July 18.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Clubs have always had DJs.
