By proper, I mean tails for the boys, ballroom dresses for the girls, white gloves, dinner speeches, toasts, <em>snaps<\/em>, drinking songs, &lt;a href=&quot;http:\/\/www.dlc.fi\/~marianna\/gourmet\/punsch.htm&quot;<em>punsch<\/em><\/a>, a 12-piece orchestra, ballroom dancing, and then, at 2.30 am, as the glow of morning twilight began brightening the proceedings, an ABBA medley.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s all beginning to make glorious sense.<\/p>\n<p>Favorite drinking song of the evening: A subversive rendition of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.anu.edu.au\/polsci\/marx\/int\/int-mus.htm\"><em>The Internationale<\/em><\/a>, which now goes like this:<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"sg-marginalia-250\">More snaps in the glas,<br \/>more glasses on the table.<br \/>More tables at the party,<br \/>more parties on this earth.<br \/>&nbsp;<br \/>More earths around the moon,<br \/>more moons around Mars.<br \/>More marching to Sk\u00e5ne (the region),<br \/>more Sk\u00e5ne (the snaps) God bless<br \/>bless bless.<\/span>Mera br\u00e4nnvin i glasen,<br \/>\nmera glas p\u00e5 v\u00e5rt bord.<br \/>\nMera bord p\u00e5 kalasen,<br \/>\nmer kalas p\u00e5 v\u00e5r jord.<br \/>\nMera jordar kring m\u00e5nen,<br \/>\nmera m\u00e5nar kring Mars.<br \/>\nMera marscher till Sk\u00e5ne,<br \/>\nmera Sk\u00e5ne gud bevars,<br \/>\nbevars bevars.<\/p>\n<p>I mangled it <em>con molto gusto<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>For longtime followers of this site, the ball also provided an opportunity to lay to rest vicious recurring rumors that Steffanie and I are one and the same person.
