Currently, most of my daily blogging allowance is spent on <a href=\"http:\/\/go.ogleearth.com\/\" title=\"\">Ogle Earth<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Fortunately, there are many English-language bloggers that are connected to Sweden in some way, so I thought I might take you on a guided tour of the <span class=\"context\">anglo-Swedish blogosphere<span class=\"sg-marginalia-250\">Defined as blogs where a majority of the writing is in English, and thus accessible to outsiders<\/span><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"context\">First, three blogs that come with enormous helpings of <span class=\"context\">&#8220;voice&#8221;<span class=\"sg-marginalia-150\">&#8220;Voice&#8221;, as defined in the latter half of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newyorker.com\/critics\/books\/?040628crbo_books1\" title=\"\">this New Yorker article<\/a>.<\/span><\/span>, and which you can count among my absolute favorites:<span class=\"sg-marginalia-250\">Looking over these three favorites, I seems to me that one reason their authors give such good blog is that they&#8217;ve found a clever literary device and stuck with it. Emi writes letters, Francis has his word of the day and Femina sends us intelligence reports. Lesson #1 for better blogging: Choose a genre and exploit all its possibilities.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/kommissariecuriosa.blogspot.com\/\" title=\"\"><em>Kommissarie F. Curiosa: Feminine curiosity can be deadly<\/em><\/a> (&#8220;An &#8216;under-the-covers&#8217; investigation of the strong, silent, nordic type&#8221;): An American girl in Sweden artfully navigates the Stockholm dating scene, and then reports back. She&#8217;s the real thing, her existence vouched for at Bloggforum. Femina has an ear for conversations worthy of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.overheardinnewyork.com\/\/\" title=\"\">Overheard in New York<\/a>, and packages these in heart-on-sleeve writing that never overshares.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/letterstomarcjacobs.blogspot.com\/\" title=\"\"><em>Letters to Marc Jacobs<\/em><\/a> (&#8220;A diary of sorts, chronicling the failures of my efforts to create a perfect life.&#8221;): Emi&#8217;s found a great literary ploy for her particular kind of stories. On the surface, what she writes look like dear-diary entries, but there is always a bigger idea lurking &mdash; a moral, if you will &mdash; which betrays planning and talent. (Great <a href=\"http:\/\/letterstomarcjacobs.blogspot.com\/2006\/01\/drummer-in-dark.html\" title=\"\">recent post<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.francisstrand.blogspot.com\/\" title=\"\"><em>How to learn Swedish in 1000 difficult lessons<\/em><\/a> by Francis Strand: This <span class=\"context\"><a href=\"http:\/\/2005.bloggies.com\/\" title=\"\">2005 Bloggie<\/a> winner<span class=\"sg-marginalia-150\">Nominations are now open for the <a href=\"http:\/\/2006.bloggies.com\/\" title=\"\">2006 Bloggies<\/a>, BTW<\/span><\/span> needs no introduction. Every word Francis writes is there for a reason, just as with my favorite authors. And his entries are short. (I suspect that&#8217;s because he is an editor.)<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"context\"><span class=\"title\">Culture<\/span><span class=\"sg-marginalia-100\">Lesson #2: Blog what you&#8217;re passionate about<\/span><\/span><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.karineriksson.se\/blog\/\" title=\"\"><em>Karin&#8217;s style blog<\/em><\/a> (&#8220;Looking at the world with a designer&#8217;s eye.&#8221;): Style and design pointers infused with Swedish sense and sensibility.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/kokblog.mw2mw.com\/\" title=\"\"><em>kokblog<\/em><\/a>: Gorgeous-looking food blog by Johanna Kindvall, often about Swedish food.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.spamula.net\/blog\/\" title=\"\"><em>Giornale Nuovo<\/em><\/a>: Mr. H.&#8217;s dedication to blogging the illustrated arts is humbling. As is his knowledge of esoterica.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/noisedfisk.com\/\" title=\"\"><em>Noisedfisk<\/em><\/a> (&#8220;Upnorth culture&#8221;): Nordic cultural trends viewed, reviewed and interviewed.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.redvolume.com\/\" title=\"\"><em>Red Volume<\/em><\/a>: Mikael Jergefelt is addicted to new music, and reports his latest discoveries.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/funday.se\/sounds\/\" title=\"\"><em>Sounds like Funday<\/em><\/a>: Once a week, annotated music downloads to get you in the mood for the weekend.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"context\"><span class=\"title\">Media<\/span><span class=\"sg-marginalia-100\">Lesson #3: Find a niche and dominate it.<\/span><\/span><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.kullin.net\/\" title=\"\"><em>Media Culpa<\/em><\/a> (&#8220;Two Swedish eyes on media and public relations&#8221;): Hans Kullin is among the best in his niche.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ad-rag.com\/~Dabitch\" title=\"\"><em>Adland<\/em><\/a> (&#8220;Disadformation&#8221;): \u00c5sk Dabitch is another Swede who dominates a niche globally with her blog.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/markmedia.blogs.com\/markmedia\/\" title=\"\"><em>Markmedia<\/em><\/a>: A lecturer at Stockholm university, Mark posts plenty of journalism resources as he finds them.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"context\"><span class=\"title\">Politics<\/span><span class=\"sg-marginalia-250\">With the exception of Margot, who really blogs from an international perspective, I&#8217;ve found no English-language Swedish blog that covers politics from left-of-center. Am I missing any?<\/span><\/span><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.johannorberg.net\/\" title=\"\"><em>Johan Norberg<\/em><\/a> (&#8220;Liberalism &mdash; Capitalism &mdash; Globalisation&#8221;): Well-informed one-man ideological juggernaut in defence of free trade and liberalism.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/weblog.jrc.cec.eu.int\/page\/wallstrom\" title=\"\"><em>Margot Wallstr\u00f6m<\/em><\/a>: Europe&#8217;s vice president blogs up a comment storm with every post.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.spectator.se\/stambord\/\" title=\"\"><em>Stambord<\/em><\/a>: Group blog by Anglo-saxons doing their best to be a thorn in the side of Swedish media.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bildt.blogspot.com\/\" title=\"\"><em>Bildt Comments<\/em><\/a> (&#8220;A European in Sweden on European and International Developments.&#8221;): Swedish ex-PM Carl Bildt ruminates on international politics as he roams the world.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"title\">Technology<\/span><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.456bereastreet.com\/\" title=\"\"><em>456 Berea Street<\/em><\/a>: When it comes to web design, Roger Johansson is an altruistic genius &mdash; the proof is his bloggie-nominated blog full of web-design tips.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/strangnet.se\/blog\/\" title=\"\"><em>Suburbia<\/em><\/a>: Patrick Strang keeps tabs on new trends that interest him.
