Salmon<\/a> has now gone mad. Just this weekend, he’s posted no fewer than 2 new pieces on l’affair<\/i> Sullivan \u2014 an affair, I hasten to add, which he single-handedly created.<\/p>\n

He seems to be an expert at following up a valid point with something completely barmy. Here’s an example:<\/p>\n

Salmon also seems to have a huge chip on his shoulder that Romenesko<\/a> doesn’t link to him, seeing the mediagossip supremo as a prime mover in the Liberal Media Conspiracy. Bollocks, Felix: Romenesko doesn’t link to you because you don’t provide fixed links!<\/p>\n

[Wed, Jan 23 2002 – 00:00] Felix<\/b> (www<\/a>) (email<\/a>) cute, stefan, cute. But I did go out and buy that camera — a Bessa-R, if you must know — and I love it! I can barely remember the last time I used a camera you didn’t need to turn on and off before using. A fully manual camera (ie it works perfectly without batteries, except for the light meter) with an incredibly sharp lens, shutter speeds down to 1\/2000 of a second — all for the same price as my piece of shit Canon G2 which never did what I wanted it to, which was pretty much impossible to focus, and which took crap photos. You should be well jealous. <\/p>\n

[Wed, Jan 23 2002 – 08:22] Stefan Geens<\/b> (www<\/a>) (email<\/a>) Fully manual cameras are the way to go. That is why my only camera is a Nikon F3 I bought second-hand in 1987. It even has a backup shutter release on the side at a fixed 1\/60 sec in case the other freezes. Perfect for your sister Rhian’s Antarctic pursuits, Felix.<\/p>\n

I only intend to switch to digital photography for my mainstream shots when the Nikon D1 costs $1,500 instead of the current $5K. It too can be configured to manually choose the depth of field and exposure. Added bonus: I can share lenses with my F3.<\/p>\n

[Wed, Jan 23 2002 – 12:57] Felix<\/b> (www<\/a>) (email<\/a>) Yeah, the F3 has the 1\/60 manual shutter (and I think you can set the shutter to B in a manual setting as well); other shutter speeds require a battery, but so long as you’re not in antarctic conditions, that’s really not so onerous. I don’t quite see the point of getting the D1; I’d wait for Nikon to come out with a digital back you can just slap onto your F3. <\/p>\n
